Unripe bananas? No problem

Do you feel like making banana bread or deep-fried banana fritters (this really is next-level indulgence!) but are your bananas still rock-hard? No sweat, here’s how to solve the problem in no time.

Nobody likes a banana as hard as a paving stone. Especially for banana bread, rock-hard bananas are completely unsuitable—you actually need bananas that have turned brown. Here’s how to fix it:
The tip
Place the bananas, unpeeled, on a piece of baking paper in a preheated oven at 150 degrees. After 40 minutes, the bananas should be pitch-black and ready to shine in a perfect banana bread. Small bananas may be ready sooner.
So check the oven after 25 minutes—are they already completely black and soft? Then they’re perfect. Not yet? Check again 5 minutes later. Keep checking them until the bananas have spent 40 minutes in the oven—by then, even the largest bananas should have softened.
Microwave?
According to some people, you can also put the bananas in the microwave whole to ripen them. Pierce the entire banana with a fork. Place the banana on a plate in the microwave for 30 seconds. Still a little hard? Give it another 30 seconds. And now? It should take a maximum of 2 minutes, depending on how unripe your banana was and how large it is.
Unripe plantains
Have unripe plantains at home? Perfect! Don’t do anything to them. You can make astonishingly delicious plantain guacamole with them! Then dip cassava chips into the green-banana guacamole. Or, also delicious: spread it on a freshly toasted bun.
