What to do with a burned tongue?

We’ve all been there. That bitterball has just come out of the deep fryer, so you know it’ll still be far too hot to eat for the next five minutes. Impatient and eager as you are, you take a bite anyway. Or, another common one: slurping piping-hot coffee. Hello, burned tongue. Here’s how to get rid of it as quickly as possible.

Cool it immediately
Just like a burn anywhere else on your body, you should cool your tongue burn as quickly as possible. Drink cold water or suck on an ice cube until the worst pain has subsided. Rinsing with a lukewarm salt solution can also help. Although salt is our favorite ingredient, this solution seems a little less appetizing to us, but it really does help with the swelling and pain.
Honey
This remedy is a lot more pleasant. Just as with a sore throat, honey can have a soothing effect on a burned tongue. Hold the spoonful of honey in your mouth for a moment, on the spot that hurts, before swallowing it.
Breathe through your mouth
Perhaps not the most charming option. But breathing through your mouth cools your tongue with fresh air. Give it a try. It doesn’t really heal it, but it does at least temporarily reduce the pain.
