10 foods that are disgustingly delicious #7

As cool as we can sometimes (or rather: quite often) be about food, we all have a soft spot for food that is both disgusting and delicious. These are the editorial team’s favorite disgustingly delicious snacks from FavorFlav at the moment. Recognizable?

Is your guilty pleasure among them too?
Be honest now, do you also love fries with something sweet on top or supermarket Olivier salad? Reassuring thought: you’re not the only one.
Those enormous chunks
Sabina: Bubbelicious chewing gum. When I have to drive a long way, I always buy a pack of Bubbelicious when I stop for gas. Preferably the standard yellow flavor (which I would describe as: ear-splittingly sweet), otherwise I get a pack of strawberry. For people who don’t know it: five enormous chunks of pink chewing gum that you can blow amaaaazing bubbles with. That’s what I spend the entire drive doing: blowing huge bubbles and then—pop—sucking the bubble back in, chew chew chew, and the next bubble. Unappetizing, I know, so it’s only possible when I’m alone in the car. Sometimes I get home with cramps and aching muscles in my jaw.
Fries with
Sharon: Fries with warm, dark chocolate sauce. Oh man, this is truly disgustingly delicious! The saltiness, the sweetness, the crunch, knowing that fries are already bad for you and then shamelessly pouring chocolate sauce all over them too. What a bad ass you are. You get it: once a year, because even deadly combinations have their limits. But do try this at home!
And then dip them in that bowl
Sylvia: My classic—try topping this: a fresh, crispy tiger-roll with a boiled egg and a huge pile of Olivier salad (yes, straight from the supermarket), nomnomnom.
Chemical is the tastiest
Laura: I already knew my boyfriend had a candy addiction. Little by little, I took over the addiction. Bags of piglets, frogs, colas, peach… All the candy bags from the school cafeteria, in short—and everything goes in in huge quantities. The more chemical, the better, of course.
On cloud nine
Iris: Dr. Oetker’s Vanilla Cloud Dessert. A disgustingly delicious, fluffy vanilla-flavored dessert on a layer of cream. So much happiness for just 50 cents!

That delicious greasy stickiness
Steffi: Oof, where to start? Bapao buns (preferably the chicken satay ones), satay sauce in general (Wijcko all the way), that sticky supermarket garlic bread you bake at home (the absolute cheapest kind, too), and perhaps the worst of all: supermarket croissants. Of course, that’s blasphemy in the croissant church, because there’s 0% craftsmanship and 100% factory work, but I just love that greasy stickiness. Squashing it a little emphasizes it even more. Deli-cious. Sorry, not sorry.
With such a big dollop on top
Adeline: A slice of bread with Coburger ham, topped with a big dollop of Calvé salad dressing and plenty of pepper and salt to finish it off. And ketchup on my noodles—I don’t eat them without it.
And a splash of sweet chili sauce
Renée: Bapao from the microwave. The beef one. With sweet chili sauce. One of those ‘bread rolls’ that actually has no flavor at all—or perhaps the flavor of cardboard—with a filling that most resembles cat food. Thirty seconds in the microwave and poof! (Sometimes literally; then the bag bursts.) Is it psychological? That bite into a large, soft, fluffy, whitish nothing, and then encountering that meaty mush—while having to be extremely careful not to burn your mouth (I would normally never use the word ‘mouth’ like that, but for some reason it fits cat-food bapao)—and then the mixture of that same fluffy nothing… And that splash of sweet chili sauce! Well, I’m not proud of it, but sometimes you just have to surrender to the quick, deliciously disgusting mouthful.

Including chocolate Easter eggs!
Lauretta: Brownies from a mix where all you have to add is butter and water. Cheap ass disgustingly delicious, especially because of that crispy crust and fudgy center. Here’s a tip from me to you: bake them for slightly less time than the package says, then patiently wait until they’ve cooled. Another tip: add chocolate Easter eggs to the batter; double chocolate, doubly disgustingly delicious. Then have lunch with a fried egg topped with blue cheese. Everyone thinks it’s revolting, but you guessed it: mega disgustingly delicious!
Old-school is the best
Delilah: The ’70s called to ask for their party snack back, but I’m keeping it: a slice of luncheon meat with a sour pickle rolled up inside. So old-fashionedly disgustingly delicious! Put me at a counter with a jar of those and a pack of cold cuts and I’m happy.
