English can be a very difficult language – especially if you weren’t paying attention during English class. Even native English speakers sometimes struggle with it. Some English words are simply downright horrible to spell. There’s no knowing where to begin. But sometimes we also get the feeling that people just write down whatever comes to mind. That they hear something and think: this must be it. But seriously, when you look at the expressions below… Does no alarm bell (or alarm) really go off? Some signal saying: something’s not right here? It is hilarious, of course. Anyone for some blubbery cheesecake?

- Uhm… Weet je het zeker?
- Zo ziet het er soms wel uit ja.
- Klinkt wel lekkerder dan salmonella.
- Niet veel soeps, deze soap.
- Voulez-vous dire… Je ne sais quoi?
- Garlic permission is ook een vreselijke smaak. Je zou garlic parmesan eens moeten proberen.
- Kijk, refrigerator is nou zo’n woord dat je niet kunt spellen zonder Google Translate te gebruiken. Ik begrijp het wel.
- Lullig wel.
- Zielig voor die cantaloupes.
- So close.
It also reminds us a little of those menus featuring the most horrendous language mistakes. Where Google Translate made an absolutely gigantic mess of the menu. Ah well, we can only chuckle about it. As long as the food is delicious…
