101-year-old woman says tequila is her secret to a long and happy life

Years ago, more precisely after a holiday in Lloret that I can barely remember, I swore I would never drink it again. And as bad as I am at keeping these kinds of promises, it has now been sixteen years (wow, I feel old now) and I still haven’t had a single drop of it. Yes, I’m talking about tequila. I genuinely don’t understand how people can drink this for pleasure. Hóe can you knock this back with a poker face?

Well, maybe I should give it another chance after all if I want to make it to 100, because Mary Flip (already an awesome name, by the way) recently turned 101 and she swears by it. The secret to a long life: tequila. She was born in Arizona but moved to Mexico at the age of eighteen, where she encountered her two great loves: her future husband and tequila.
Long may she live
She celebrated her 101st birthday with tequila as well as her favorite beer: Guinness. I really don’t like drinking that either, but it has long been clear to me that Mary Flip is a true hardcore drinker. A sickly sweet cocktail probably wouldn’t make her happy. No, only the real deal for her.
It’s not actually such crazy advice, either: the oldest woman in the world, Lucile Randon, was allowed to blow out 118 (!) candles this April, and she was asked the same question. What was her secret to a long life? ‘A glass of wine a day, keeps the doctor away,’ she replied. And she has been faithfully drinking that glass of wine at breakfast for years. Two heroines, these women.
