I genuinely think a good meatball is worth taking a detour for. You know, one with the perfect balance between juiciness and a bite, perfectly seasoned and with a deliciously crispy crust. Not everyone can make a meatball like that, but at these ten master butchers you can find a top-notch one; they are, after all, the ten finalists in the professional competition for the Tastiest Meatball.
The professional competition, in which the trade association Koninklijke Nederlandse Slagers searches for the tastiest meatball, takes place annually. An expert jury assesses the submitted products on taste, aroma, colour, appearance and composition.

The finalists’ meatballs score very highly in the above categories and are, of course, made traditionally, with care and passion. Each finalist has their own secret, ranging from the spice blend and type and ratio of minced meat to the way the meatball is fried, etc.
