10x things supermarket customers say that are just really weird #3

Albert Heijn broodafdeling

Once again, you went all out on Facebook about things supermarket customers say that are just really weird, so a part 3 featuring bizarre things supermarket customers say was inevitable. Enjoy!

Beer here

Beer—who doesn’t love it? But this customer really takes the cake… he ‘threw’ the money at Petra from behind the checkout, grabbed his beer and left. Guess what? The man had given 5 cents too little. Petra wasn’t going to let that slide. She went after him and, sure enough, the 5 cents turned up. To which the customer said: ‘Wow, you actually count all the small change here….’

Too much flan

Poor Veronique. She scans a delicious flan and says to her customer: ‘That looks tasty’. To which the customer says: ‘Sorry, but apparently you’ve already had enough flan’. Veronique, we’d have paid your legal fees if you’d twisted his neck.

Having a nice lunch

It’s not just in supermarkets that people make strange remarks; car dealerships can do it too. Michael knows all about it. He’s eating a delicious sandwich when a customer comes to the counter. He looks at Michael’s hand and asks: ‘Are you eating?’ To which Michael says: ‘No, I always open my lunchbox at half past twelve and then sit and stare at my sandwich for half an hour…’

In the bath

Anne is required to ask whether the customer would like advice about Paracetamol 500mg. Here are some of the answers: ‘Can I take it with beer?’, ‘Can I throw it in my bath too?’. Can you imagine how exhausting it is to get answers like these several times a day and then keep smiling politely?

Can you take anything off?

This is typically Dutch: asking whether the price can be reduced, without giving any reason. Mary then says with a friendly smile: ‘Of course, I’ll just cut the tag off for you.’

An expensive hobby

A customer came to buy cigarettes and a box of condoms and said while paying: ‘Wow, that’s expensive’. Cashier Ariane replied: ‘Yes, every hobby costs a lot of money’. The customer and Ariane laughed about it together, but afterwards she was a little embarrassed… Oh well, a joke a day keeps the doctor away.

Self-checkout

He came storming up to Conny: ‘It’s always the same here, I’ve been charged twice for an item again!’ To which a bewildered Conny says: ‘Sir, that’s a self-checkout receipt—you did that YOURSELF’. Well, there he stood, lost for words…

Lidl or Aldi?

Jana works at Lidl, but it’s amazing how often customers approach her holding an Aldi flyer: ‘It should be here from today and once again you don’t have it’. Gee, how could that be?

Yesterday’s bread

Coby also wants to share something. ‘A customer in the bakery asks, “Is that bread from today?” Then Coby casually says, “Well, ma’am, for today’s bread you’ll have to come back tomorrow.”‘ Brilliant.

Hairy chef

People make strange remarks in restaurants too. A customer came to complain to Manuela that there was a hair from the chef in her food. Manuela very politely said: ‘It can’t be from our chef; it’s probably yours’. The woman insisted that it wasn’t hers, but really was from the chef in question. Manuela then brought over the chef, and guess what? The customer turned as red as a tomato when she saw that the chef was completely bald. Hahahaha.
