10x Supermarket Customer Comments That Are Just Really Weird

On Facebook, you went wild over our article about bizarre comments from supermarket customers. Yes, apparently things can always get worse—just read this…

Congratulations on your diploma
Oh, how annoying—those tired old remarks. A customer wants to pay by card and then shouts ‘Passed!’ at the top of their voice when the transaction is approved. Laura goes completely crazy over it. Once, she was so fed up that she handed over the receipt with a broad smile and said: ‘Then here is your diploma!’. You rock, Laura.
Keep your legs together
Poor Marcella was left speechless. Guess what: when her customer had bought a nice fish that smelled a little fishy, another customer said: ‘Can you keep your legs together, because it really stinks’. WTF?!
Stupid people…
Well, cashiers have to be trained, of course—we previously wrote about cashiers’ annoyances. Tessa was helping train a new cashier when a customer came along… About the training, they said: ‘Just do that in your own time’. Tessa replied: ‘I think this is my own time?’. But then an ultra—I repeat: ultra – stupid comment came out: ‘Teach her when the shop is closed…’. But sir, what would there be left to check out then? Pfff….
SELF-checkout
Some people really are as lazy as a pig’s backside—Joice would know. A customer with a whole trolley full of groceries walks over to the self-checkout, only to casually ask Joice if she could scan her products for her. Apparently, not everyone understands the principle of a self-checkout.
Supermarket fashion
This one is classic, as Jodie herself says. You are happily stocking the shelves in your work clothes when a customer asks you: ‘Do you work here?’. What do you think? I’m not wearing clothes with the supermarket’s name printed in huge letters for fun, am I?
Next-level battery chicken
Stupid comments aren’t only made in the supermarket, but at the butcher’s too. Petra works at a poultry shop that sells spareribs. And what do you think people ask? Not whether they can have a kilo of spareribs, but whether those spareribs… come from a chicken! Unbelievable! But Petra says with a completely straight face: ‘Yes, chickens that big really do exist’.
What do you think?
Some people are unbelievably cheeky. Cheyenne often encounters them: ‘Sir, would you like the receipt?’. And then she gets this answer: ‘Only if you put your phone number on it’. And then you still have to smile politely, while thinking inside: you can write that phone number on your belly, you idiot.
No, that was yesterday
People who assume products are free because of a damaged barcode or any other reason—that happens more often than you think. Mirjam is also often asked: ‘There’s no price on the item—is it free, then?’. Mirjam casually replies: ‘No sorry, that was yesterday’. Can you already picture that customer’s face? Hilarious, HAHAHAH!
When it’s gone, it’s gone
Your favorite chocolate bar is sold out? It happens, of course. Unfortunately, there’s no factory behind the supermarket, so when it’s gone, it’s gone. But Jodie knows that there are always customers who think they know better than you and insist there’s another bar in the back. So you dutifully head to the stockroom, but no: no bars. You kindly tell the customer in question, and what do you think? They then go and ask your colleague! Honestly.
Many greetings
Speaking of stupid, strange and oh-so-annoying comments. ‘Would you like the receipt?’ It’s a question Hetty is required to ask. And then getting this answer several times a week: ‘No thanks, I can’t deduct it from my taxes anyway.’ EXHAUSTING.
