14 times those hilarious Brits left everyone stunned

Britten bij een pub

No, of course you can’t tar an entire nation with the same brush, but it is a source of amusement: utterly hilarious things Brits do or say. Here’s a collection of moments from the United Kingdom that made us splutter coffee out of our noses…

For with your tea

If you imagine that typically British composure here, you’ll understand that total chaos and panic reigned in people’s hearts. Because what on GOD’S EARTH were you supposed to put IN the (all day) tea?

For the perfect toast

Heaven forbid you come home with a new toaster and the slot turns out to be just not quite wide enough for the slices of bread you always buy. That certainly wasn’t going to happen to this lady.

Sweet memories

Ah, those good old innocent days… did you do this too? Mind you – we’re talking about chips here, not crisps from a bag. Though it works just as well for those!

Presentation is key

It won’t be as disgusting as Rachel’s trifle from Friends. It won’t be disgusting at all, in fact; it’s simply an, uh, unusual way of presenting it. But the execution of the fried potatoes (hash browns), eggs and bacon does look fantastic, doesn’t it?!

Full English on the go

There are plenty of things that are too antisocial to eat on public transport. What do we think: does this Full English belong in the underground too?

Worst train ever

Sticking with modes of transport for a moment; this butcher is more than happy to parade around with his sausages, but of course he needs both hands in the shop… Solution found, toot toot!

Perfect fit

Baked beans in tomato sauce are as much a part of life there as, well, tulips and cheese are in our lives! And when you’re a true-blue Brit and get a mug like this, there’s really only one thing you can do:

Very polite indeed

Always polite, even when you have to eliminate germs and bacteria in the kitchen (and don’t feel like using one of those disgusting yellow cloths): ‘Cheerio, dirt!’ you say, thanks for being here, but it really is time for you to bugger off!

There’s no such thing as bad weather

What brave souls. When these people were allowed back on a terrace for the first time after months of strict lockdown, they absolutely weren’t going to let the weather put them off. As my extremely British in-laws also used to say: There’s no such thing as bad weather. There is only insufficient clothing…

Piss off

Hahahahaha! You’d better be clear-headed, these hospitality bosses thought when they were allowed to reopen after that same lockdown:

Hipster

All kinds of people on the terrace, of course, just like here thankfully (otherwise it would get boring). But some people really do want to be hipsters in the most forced way… And how antisocial is it to sit and do this opposite your date?! Move on, girl.

Meet the Royals

We don’t think you’ll get anywhere with these pub-goers by turning up with your headphones and vinyl collection (I know where I’m going to sit, right here!). The local pub in Leeds perfectly captured by Google Maps.

Not my kind a donut

Even the stiffest upper lip couldn’t hold it together when a colleague brought in custard doughnuts. And no jam doughnuts. How dare he/she…

This is actually a job

And as a final treat: the mince pie (you know, the classic British Christmas pastries) expert. An important position in the United Kingdom!
