6 of the tastiest Lay’s chips to bring home from France
Here at FavorFlav, we’re crazy about chips. We regularly scour the supermarket for new flavors, including abroad. Our lovely colleagues at Amayzine know this, and brought back – thank you, thank you! – a few bags of Lay’s from the French supermarché. And that one flavor… it needs to go on sale here too very soon: irresistible chips!
Daniëlle brought back six bags from her weekend in Paris. Yes, while she was enjoying 24 hours at Disneyland Paris, all we could think about were the chip flavors we didn’t know yet. Here’s what we tasted and what we thought of them:
Lay’s Fromage
Of course there’s a French cheese-chip variety. What does it taste like? Cheesy, but only lightly cheesy, judged our panel of six hardcore chip lovers, myself included. I do miss a real cheese flavor here, like in Hamka’s. Among cheese chips, I don’t think this one is a winner. It’s, très honnête, somewhat the feeble little brother of cheese Cheetos. Score: 6.5.
Lay’s Fromage de Chèvre
For goat cheese lovers, this really tastes like goat cheese! While the regular cheese flavor mentioned above isn’t very cheesy, this one is truly pronounced. Unanimous verdict: how delicious is this! We’re going to start a petition for it. Lay’s Fromage de Chèvre needs to hit Dutch supermarkets as soon as possible. Score: 9+.
Lay’s Poulet Rôti
Rotisserie chicken. Soooo delicious when you see it in France. But how good is it as a chip flavor? What stands out most is the overpowering rosemary flavor. And also: the smokiness. Tasty, keep-munching chips to enjoy with a beer. Score: 7+.
Lay’s Classic Burger
This tastes like McDonald’s fries sauce! That pickle flavor, the tanginess. A real recommendation for Joppie chips lovers too. Yes, this is definitely one to bring home from your French vacation. Score: 7+.
Lay’s Barbecue
FavorFlav editorial favorite, according to Wieke. This is very smoky. And lightly sweet. ‘Perfection in a bag,’ says Wieke. Dangerously easy to keep eating. Score: 9-.
Lay’s Spicy
Spicy? No. Nicely crunchy, but this is more reminiscent of cheese and onion than spicy. Score: 6.
Conclusion: whether you’re spending a weekend in Paris, a midweek break in Nice or a week on the Côte d’Azur, be sure to bring home a bag of Lay’s Fromage de Chèvre and Lay’s Barbecue. True chip standouts that unfortunately aren’t (yet) available here.
