These food trends are going to be huge, according to Pinterest
Around this time of year, lists of trends for the coming year are flying at you from all directions (and, incidentally, so are lists of things you’re never going to eat or do again from January 1, 2022). But if there’s one platform whose very reason for existence is that people indicate and keep track of their genuine interests, it’s Pinterest. So if they say: this is hot and people want to know or try everything about it (just look at their boards), there’s a particularly good chance it will come true…
And when Pinterest announced what people are preparing for in the ‘Food and Beverage’ category, we pricked up our ears. According to the company, it is the ideal platform people turn to when planning for the future. And in that (near) future, we’ll apparently be seeing a lot of the following:
Tea time
No, forget the pub for now (at least, that’s how it seems at the moment). And if people have also been a little shocked by, for example, how high they rank on the list of the world’s most frequently drunk populations (the Netherlands in tenth place), it’s not so strange that they’re looking for alternatives to the old-fashioned drinking binge. What are people searching for particularly enthusiastically? ‘Vintage tea party’! Carefully pull your grandmother’s old crockery out of the cupboard, brew a pot of strong tea, and get going with your high tea. ‘High tea food ideas’ is also searched for four times more often than in the previous two years; I wonder whether Pinterest users have already heard of the high frikandel…
Challenging cake
Done with easy brownies, so long to simple muffins, and that chocolate cake in a mug has to go too. Pinterest home bakers are currently really into ‘gravity-defying cake ideas’, it seems. Layers, bubble shapes and complicated 3D decorations are called for, and now we can only hope that all those ‘unusual cakes’ taste good at your vintage tea party.
Ancestral food
The concept ‘Ancestral Eats’ was somewhat difficult to translate, but according to Pinterest, it simply means recipes from ‘someone’s grandparents’. It fits with the antique crockery too, but besides having high tea, you also delve into your roots (the figurative ones, alongside the orange ones that might end up on your plate). Or you explore the stories and dishes associated with someone else’s roots. Eating according to tradition—utterly fascinating!
