After forty years, a piece of this wedding cake is being auctioned: who wants it?
Today is the day! Anyone obsessed with the British royal family, or simply fond of unique collectibles, is probably sitting nervously in the room today as a piece of Charles & Diana’s wedding cake is auctioned…
At the end of July, it was forty years since the two said “I do,” and we all know this was not a fairy tale with a happy ending. And yet, or perhaps precisely because of that, this piece of cake is expected to fetch quite a lot.
In the doggy bag
A member of the royal household received the piece of cake after the 1981 wedding and kept it wrapped in plastic wrap for years; after which her family sold it to a collector in 2008. This collector is now having it offered at auction. It is, of course, very lavishly decorated, with the family coat of arms in gold, silver, red and blue on a white background.
Good tip
Chris Albury of the auction house in question, Dominic Winter, expects the piece to fetch around five hundred pounds, and has this message for its future owner: ‘The piece of cake looks good. But we do not recommend actually eating it’. Haha okay, crystal clear!
