Albert Heijn introduces look, smell and taste logo on packaging

Worldwide, around a third of the food produced is thrown away. This happens at various stages of the food chain. What a waste! To combat this relentless food waste, Albert Heijn is undertaking various initiatives. One of these initiatives is the look, smell and taste logo on packaging.

Look, smell and taste logo
From today, Albert Heijn is using the look, smell and taste logo on packaging. Albert Heijn own-brand low-fat and full-fat yoghurt and buttermilk are the first products to feature this new logo. Is that necessary? Perhaps. Because many people are incredibly anxious when it comes to the THT, the ‘best before’ code. A young farmer previously spoke out about the idiotic food waste caused by the THT date.
Apparently, many people no longer think for themselves, but only obsessively look at the THT. And then, incorrectly, assume that a product is no longer good. But you can actually be very flexible with the THT date. Because ‘best before’ often means that you can still consume something perfectly well at least a day, or even two days, later. Look, smell and taste it, and you’ll soon know whether something is still safe to eat or drink.
Not fit for a cat
Or do what my mother used to do. Put some milk in a saucer for the cat. Does the cat drink it? Then it’s still good. Does your cat turn up its kitten-like nose at it? Then the milk can go down the drain.
