Albert Heijn warns about Spanish cheese: ‘fecal bacteria’ present

Bought a delicious Spanish cheese at Albert Heijn? Quickly check your fridge and the best-before date, because you may have bought a cheese containing the so-called ‘fecal bacteria’…

The word ‘fecal bacteria’ always scares me half to death (apart from the fact that it sounds particularly disgusting). The term ‘E. coli bacteria’ sounds somewhat less revolting, and this fecal bacterium naturally occurs in our intestinal tract. However, there are a few variants that can cause a food infection. If you ingest them, you may experience symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
Listeria hysteria
Albert Heijn has therefore decided to recall AH Queso Iberico cheese from its stores. The product contains elevated levels of E. coli that may belong to the pathogenic STEC bacteria. Some products may contain Listeria monocytogenes.

Check the best-before date
The recall concerns the following AH Queso Iberico cheese with the following best-before dates: 5-01-2022, 6-01-2022, 7-01-2022, 8-01-2022, 12-01-2022.
Albert Heijn warns that eating AH Queso Iberico cheese with the specified best-before dates may pose a health risk, especially to young children, older people, people with weakened immune systems and pregnant women.
If you have one of these cheeses at home, do not eat it, but return it to an Albert Heijn store. You will receive a refund of the purchase price when you return the product.
