Amsterdam’s first game and wine bar has opened: ’t Vliegend Hert
The hunting season is open, so pheasants, rabbits and other game may be hunted again. For game lovers, this is a time of year they eagerly look forward to. Seasonal dishes such as venison, roe deer and poultry—how can you enjoy them at their best? With a matching glass of wine! And the good news: you can now do that at Amsterdam’s first game and wine bar.
Bar de Vlieg, one of the rooms of the renowned restaurant d’Vijff Vlieghen, is a cosy living-room bar in a unique location in the heart of Amsterdam. Over the coming weeks, Bar de Vlieg will be transformed into game and wine bar ’t Vliegend Hert.
Wild wine and food pairings
The wines on the menu come from the French wine region of Pays d’Oc (which covers the Languedoc-Roussillon region); these wines pair exceptionally well with the dishes served at ‘t Vliegend Hert, thanks to the great diversity of grape varieties found in the region. White, rosé and red—you can make it as wild as you like.
Game from the Veluwe
The game comes from the Veluwe and bears the signature of game restaurant and hotel De Echoput, located in the woods of the Kroondomein near Apeldoorn. De Echoput has a long tradition of preparing game. The menu features more than 10 dishes to choose from, so there is something for everyone. And anyone who would rather leave the game in the wild is also very welcome at this special pop-up, as there are also several mushroom dishes.

Game and wine bar ’t Vliegend Hert is open from 16:00 to 23:00 (the kitchen closes at 22:00).
Dinner shift 1 – from 17:30 – 20:00
Dinner shift 2 – from 20:00 – 22:30.
