Are you already doing seed cycling?

Apple cider vinegar in a glass of lukewarm water before breakfast, oil pulling to clean your mouth and eating clay for better bowel movements. Before one health craze has even ended, the next one is already knocking at the door. Are you already familiar with seed cycling?

I’m not really into all that health nonsense, but ever since I discovered that açaí bowls are actually fucking delicious, I do sometimes secretly take a look at what else is going on in the world of health. It never really leads to much, apart from me eating kale every now and then and putting ginger in everything. But that’s really just because I like the taste. Earlier this week, this investigation led me to a trend that was unknown to me: seed cycling—adjusting the seeds you eat to your menstrual cycle. What??
Happy hormones
When I google it, the first result is ‘Seed cycle: your way to happy hormones’. That sounds promising. Apparently, an imbalance between oestrogen and progesterone can cause PMS, cramps, headaches, an irregular cycle and acne. Not exactly fun. The only thing you need to do about it? Eat flaxseeds and pumpkin seeds during the first two weeks of your cycle, and sesame seeds and sunflower seeds during the final two weeks. That way, you get exactly enough zinc and omega-3, while giving your liver a helping hand with detoxification.
Five-seed crackers
What will people think of next? How many of these seeds do you actually have to eat to combat symptoms? Is a spoonful of granola every day enough, or do you really have to force spoonfuls of that dry stuff down your throat? Apparently, one tablespoon of each type of seed is sufficient—but surely there can’t be that many nutrients in it? This trend raises a lot of questions for me. Anyway, here’s a recipe for crackers made with five different types of seeds (chia seeds included free of charge). I couldn’t find anything saying that you’re not allowed to eat all the seeds at once. So eat these crackers every day on your way to happy hormones.
