At Airbnb’s expense to Italy

Taking cooking classes in a picturesque Italian village, learning Italian and digging around in a vegetable garden. It may sound too good to be true, but this year Airbnb is selecting no fewer than four candidates for whom the Italian dream will come true.

Grottole is a small village in southern Italy with just 300 inhabitants. Beautiful and authentic, but with so few residents, the village is at risk of disappearing forever. That’s why Airbnb is selecting four candidates to volunteer for a local nonprofit working to breathe new life into the village’s historic center.
Italian life
What exactly does it involve? For three months, you’ll be immersed in rustic Italian life. You’ll learn Italian, learn to cook from a nonna and help the organization with chores throughout the day. That means toiling in a vegetable garden, but alongside a local vegetable expert. You’ll also help host Airbnb guests. So you will be put to work, but we can think of worse jobs.
Want to participate?
This is volunteer work, so you won’t be paid. You’ll only receive money for groceries, but in such a small village there’s nothing to do anyway, so you won’t need much cash. You can sign up on the website of the Italian Sabbatical project until February 17.
