At the new BUNK in Amsterdam, you’ll want to stay the night after dinner
Following the resounding success of the wonderful BUNK in Utrecht , Amsterdam now has a BUNK Hotel too. In the former, thoroughly renovated Sint-Rita church in Amsterdam-Noord, with room for 300 guests, you can enjoy a delicious meal in the reasonably priced restaurant and then stay the night in a Pod.
With the exciting BUNK in Utrecht, Joachim de Looij & Robin Hagedoorn, the men behind Bunk Hotels, stormed into the annual FavorFlav Food Top 100 2019. And now, after a major renovation, their second BUNK is opening.
Poshtels
Is BUNK a hotel with hostel prices? Or a hostel with the quality and service of a hotel? Both! And that fits perfectly with the current zeitgeist, in which hostels are no longer rough-and-ready dormitories with a cafeteria, but genuine ‘glostels’: glossy hostels. Also known as ‘poshtels’ (posh hotels). Or, in BUNK’s case: Podtels…
Sleeping in Pods
At BUNK, you can sleep in so-called ‘Pods’: cleverly designed cabins. There are Pods for one (and how sweet: there’s a BUNK teddy bear in your bed for company) and Pods for two. Want something a little bigger? In the belly of the church, an atrium has been created in which 107 compact rooms float through the space like houses in an Italian mountain village. Each room has the functionality of a complete hotel room, but thanks to its smart design, much less space is needed. Want to make it extra cosy? Choose a room with a 3-, 4- or 5-person bed (cheekily referred to by the staff as ‘swinger rooms’). The final finishing touches will be completed in the coming weeks, and from April you can stay the night affordably (let’s be honest: cheaply) while still being very comfortable.
Chef Ramon Beuk
The kitchen is led by chef Ramon Beuk. For BUNK, he put together a number of delightful dishes, prepared with local ingredients. We enjoyed a delicious tartare of ossenworst with piccalilly, crispy capers, brioche and egg-yolk cream.
You can eat at long tables, at the bar or in one of the ‘train compartments’, which can seat up to six people. Where else can you find a cup of coffee for €1.50? At BUNK, that’s where.
Free (!) cultural programme
Glostel, poshtel or Podtel; BUNK is a place where people come together to experience something special. Alongside its excellent kitchen, large outdoor terrace, fun Pods and larger rooms, BUNK presents an extensive and free (!) cultural programme, a library, and a fully equipped online recording studio open to local and international DJ and podcast talent. And then there’s the artist-in-residence programme, which gives creative movers & shakers the space to make wonderful things without time pressure, financial pressure or any obligation in return. Amsterdam-Noord has gained another fantastic spot!
