Pllek is a gem in Amsterdam Noord where you can eat wonderfully

Pllek rode biet ravioli (1)

Pllek is a wonderful gem on the NSDM site in Amsterdam Noord, right on the water, overlooking the IJ. What once began as a small, modest ‘food corner’ has grown over the past eight years into a hugely successful, distinctly Amsterdam, quality restaurant. Go there before it is forced to close its doors!

The location itself is amazing, too. Right on the water, you have a beautiful view over the water from inside; the restaurant is housed in a large container. Pllek is also a great place to be in summer, on the large terrace or in the beanbags on the ‘beach’ by the water.

Spacious and cosy

Once inside, you only really notice how large Pllek is. You can sit downstairs in the large space, or at one of the more intimate tables along the side. Upstairs is cosier, with tables surrounded by leather benches and another beautiful view. All day long, there is a remarkable vibrancy and incredibly lovely staff. Skilled, quick and extremely friendly.

Green vegetable restaurant

Pllek is also one of Amsterdam’s biggest green restaurants. You can see that in the menu, which is packed with fantastic vegetable dishes. Dishes in which you do not miss the meat at all. We tried, among other things, a tandoori of cauliflower and pumpkin with yellow split peas, carrot and cumin cream, mango chutney and roasted papadum; a beautiful and outstanding dish from the new menu. Delicious with a Virgin Mojito.

Most of the vegetables are planted and harvested in Amsterdam. Every Wednesday, Chef Dimitri goes to Wim Bijma to harvest for Pllek. The meat—because they do serve it here, albeit in much smaller quantities—comes from animals that lived in the wild. The fish comes from the North Sea. Be sure to try the cod ceviche with pomegranate and avocado cream with fried blue corn tortilla. Fresh, with a lovely bite. We drank a Touraine Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire with it, an exotic and fresh wine that holds its own perfectly alongside such a distinctly fresh dish as ceviche. Incidentally, all the wines come from Karakter Wijnimport in Amsterdam Noord, most of which are produced organically.

Everything at Pllek is as local as possible, so that the entire food and drink chain contributes optimally to a better world and leaves a minimal footprint. So that everything here not only tastes delicious, but is also good for you and for our world.

Ravioli with beetroot

One of the dishes that will have us coming back soon is the ravioli with ricotta and beetroot. Very tasty, colourful, fresh, and also: filling! So take it easy, because you will want to save room for the extensive dessert menu, too. How about grilled pineapple with coconut sorbet, tarte tatin, pumpkin cake and warm bread pudding? Believe me, you really want to leave room for this!

Ravioli rode biet Pllek Amsterdam

Pllek began as a temporary experimental project and has since grown into one of Amsterdam’s most unique hospitality venues. Spacious, relaxed, open-minded, and with a beating heart for responsible and sustainable business. You can also come here for live music, DJs, yoga, art and much more. Such a wonderful place in Amsterdam, where you can eat brilliantly all day long, is a real asset to the city and must not disappear!

Pllek must stay: the petition

All the more upsetting, then, that it was recently announced that Pllek must close its doors in 2022 to make way for new construction. The strange thing is that those plans will not take place until around 2028! So do us—and especially yourself—a favour and sign the petition for Pllek to stay. It should not close already when there are still years left to enjoy this wonderful place. You can sign the petition here.
