Bacon Critic Hunts for Bacon

Breakfast is booming, as became clear once again when the American Time Inc. saw potential in launching a new website dedicated to breakfast and brunch this summer, Extra Crispy.

The name suggests that the focus is not on yogurts and other health food, but on everything with a crust. And in America, there is simply no breakfast without the ideally crispy crusts of a few slices of bacon.

Best job

Bacon is such a breakfast classic that the site was looking for a bacon critic. And they certainly knew it. The ‘best job in the world’ attracted 1,600 passionate, sometimes even tattooed, applicants.

There is now even a critic for bacon.

The lucky bacon hunter ultimately turned out to be Scott Gold from New Orleans, a writer for Eater, Thrillist, Gourmet and Time Out, among others, and author of the book The shameless carnivore, a manifesto for meat lovers.

Bacon quest

Gold is now on a three-month worldwide quest, commissioned by Extra Crispy, to find the best bacon on earth, which he will report on for the site.

An attempt by the meat lobby to stay in the news now that bacon is under threat from the rise of vegan breakfast?
