hollandse garnalen ongepeld

Salmonella bacteria have been found in packages of Dutch shrimp. The supplier is removing the shrimp from stores and is urging everyone not to eat them. The affected product is peeled Dutch shrimp from the SOLT brand, with an expiration date of August 1, 2022.

A salmonella infection can make you seriously ill. The bacteria can be found in meat and fish, but can also occur in eggs or dairy products. The time between eating salmonella-contaminated food and the first symptoms can be 6 to 72 hours, with symptoms including diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nausea and vomiting. The infection usually clears up after a week, but symptoms can be much more severe in people with poor health and young children than in healthy adults. Children and older people can become dehydrated quickly when they are this ill, and people who are already sick even risk more serious complications such as blood poisoning, meningitis and urinary tract infections.

Return them to the store

The supplier has not disclosed how the shrimp became contaminated. But it is better to be safe than sorry: if you have SOLT shrimp with an expiration date of August 1, 2022, in your refrigerator, return them to the place where you bought them. These shrimp are sold at, among others, Hanos and FishXL.
