Block Your Calendar: These Are the Dates When Cafés and Restaurants Will Reopen
Last Sunday, I got somewhat worked up about the fact that, contrary to earlier reports, the terraces still did not open after such a long time — and yes, that caused quite a stir. Because, as I wrote, if the parks are packed, a terrace with tables one and a half metres apart and a limited number of people can open too, right? No, apparently not. A bitter pill for the hospitality industry itself, and for everyone longing for this so badly. Will it finally happen with the government’s five-step plan?
Let’s hope so! Then, provided the coronavirus figures allow it, restaurants and cafés will reopen on 26 May and 16 June. What will those steps look like?
Step 1 towards reopening the hospitality industry
On 20 April, it will be announced whether this first step can be taken on 28 April. That would mean terraces and shops reopening under certain conditions, and the curfew being lifted.
Steps 2 & 3
The second step in the reopening plan will be taken on 11 May at the earliest. Naturally, this will only happen if the coronavirus figures allow it. For example, more will be possible when it comes to sports. The third step will follow, allowing restaurants to reopen under certain conditions (as will cinemas and museums). A maximum number of guests (and visitors at home) will still apply. In the following steps, this number will be increased.
26 May: we can eat out again
Could it really happen? Let’s hope so! Invite your favourite dining companion now and block your calendar: restaurants are scheduled to reopen on 26 May. And good to know: this is how you can become the ideal hospitality guest.
16 June: the entire hospitality industry reopens
A national holiday, as far as I’m concerned. On 16 June, the entire hospitality industry will reopen its doors. Events will also be allowed again, so if everything goes well, we can visit our favourite festivals again this year, such as Bacchus wine festival, Taste and, of course, the very first Amsterdam Cheese Festival!
