Pack your bags (and a light wallet): these are the cheapest Michelin meals in the world
If you want to eat at a Michelin-starred restaurant, you can generally assume that you’ll leave a bag containing anywhere from a few days’ to a whole lot of your salary behind when you leave, right? Nope, not always! Of course, there are places where you can end up paying an astronomical amount at the end of the evening, but the good news is that restaurants can be found all over the world that are both affordable and have a seriously impressive Michelin star to their name…
And those exact places have been conveniently mapped out by the American website Top Dollar. By reviewing all Michelin restaurants with one, two or three stars and comparing all the menu prices, they came up with an incredibly useful list of the cheapest Michelin-starred menus around the world. And those are featured on this beautiful map! And the ‘winner’? For us, it’s easily reachable by car, once everything is allowed again! It’s the menu du marche at Hotel La Montagne in northern France, which will leave you just €25 lighter…
Level playing field
To keep things fair, dishes or menus such as tapas were not included, and they had to be full meals. There are 25 one-star establishments where you can spend less than $50 and still say that you ate at a Michelin-starred restaurant. In addition, there were another 75 restaurants where you can spend less than $100. For convenience, we’re also using the dollar here because the research company is called Top Dollar, but of course it gets even better when you factor in the exchange rate and that $50 suddenly becomes just €42 for us! Sounds even better!
Delayed foodies
Incidentally, Michelin hasn’t visited the entire world yet to let the 2021 shower of stars rain down. In some parts of the world, the ongoing pandemic is naturally causing delays, while here in the Netherlands the whole thing had already leaked accidentally before the announcement (ouch…)
