You can now book a lunch cruise (with a Michelin-starred chef!) and it sounds amazing
Are you also more than fed up with wolfing down a grilled cheese sandwich behind your laptop? Because as delicious as these grilled cheese sandwiches are, enjoying a Michelin-starred lunch while cruising along sounds much more fun and delicious, right? Okay, it also costs a bit more than two slices of bread with a filling in between, but you do get something for your money…
From Tasty Walks to all kinds of drive-thrus; although it is pretty frustrating that the hospitality industry is still closed, fortunately there are plenty of initiatives from that same industry and chefs to let people enjoy eating out again. And throughout the entire month of April, you can book a lunch cruise, hosted by Restaurant Merlet from Schoorl. The lunch cruise departs from Alkmaar and follows a route through beautiful North Holland to the Zaanse Schans.
Let’s cruise!
Cruise boat and floating hotel Magnifique IV has been transformed into the M.S. Merlet. Chef Jonathan Zandbergen and his team prepare a gastronomic five-course lunch menu from the galley of the cruise boat, including an amuse-bouche, a glass of Champagne, matching wines, water and, to finish, coffee or tea with friandises. On board this 67-metre-long ship, all suites have been converted into private dining spaces. The dishes are served to the door of your cabin, after which you reel them in yourself.
What can you expect? Beautiful ingredients, distinctive international flavours and innovative French cuisine: these are the hallmarks of Jonathan Zandbergen’s style. He is always looking for the best products from the surrounding area, from freshly caught sea bass supplied by fisherman Jack, caught off Schoorl beach, to the flavourful vegetables grown by Jeroen at De Noorderhoeve farm.
You can stay overnight too
The price for the lunch cruise, including use of the hotel room, is 275 euros per person, with the option of extending the cruise by one night. It does indeed cost a fair bit, but as you can see in the video below, it really does allow you to get away from it all for a while.
