Brits take it to a whole new level: a deep-fried chip butty
Middleton is best known as Kate’s surname, the Duchess of Cambridge and wife of Prince William, but soon everyone will know this small place in Leeds as the birthplace of the deep-fried battered chip butty. The what?
In England, the chip butty is a popular snack: a bread roll topped with chips. And across the Channel, they’re also rather generous when it comes to the deep fryer: everything goes in, even Mars bars. So combining a chip butty with batter and piping-hot oil is an obvious next step.
A substantial meal
At KP’s Fish Bar in Middleton, they managed to combine these winning factors into a new snack. This deep-fried chip butty is not for the faint-hearted, reports the journalist from Leeds Live: it’s a huge ball with a thick, crispy coating on the outside. The place has also been absolutely packed since they added the butty to the menu.
Not too greasy
That’s why the journalist took his butty home, took a few photos and dug in. Delicious, he says. Lovely and crispy, not too greasy, and the chips are perfect. And what do they serve at KP’s after such a calorie-laden sandwich? A deep-fried Cadbury Creme Egg, or a deep-fried Mars bar. Delicious, according to Leeds Live. The report makes no mention of Rennies or food comas, so presumably everything turned out fine.
