Buongiorno, we want this Italian McDonald’s burger here too

Motasio DOP & pancetta-burger McDonald’s Italie

Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates spicy spring rolls, has devoured at least 1,500 burgers in his lifetime, suspects there’s more mayonnaise in his body than blood, and shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav. This time, Snackspert is not only raving about this burger from Italian McDonald’s; the smashburger and pintxos also score highly.

Motasio DOP & pancetta burger from McDonald’s, Naples

Secretly the guilty pleasure of every holiday abroad: visiting McDonald’s and seeing what other burgers they have. And yes, Dutch McDonald’s could learn a lot from this, because the Italian chain’s Motasio DOP & pancetta burger is a really good one. A delicious freshly baked little burger, topped with a slice of cheese embraced by breadcrumbs (super tasty?! You could do that in the Netherlands too), followed by a slice of pancetta that’s a little too chewy. But the real winner is the onion and apple sauce on top. What a sweet surprise! Never seen it at McDonald’s before, but what a pleasant discovery. A really lovely burger, then—our little frog country could learn something from this. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Pintxos from Mi Ami, Amsterdam

A very nice new hotspot in Amsterdam: Mi Ami on Jan van Galenstraat. I don’t say this often, but this is exactly the kind of place I’d happily return to when, for example, it’s Friday night and I’m in the mood to party. But did you know they also serve truly delicious bites there (pintxos, to be precise)? There are too many to list, but a few highlights I came across: the sous vide steak with chimichurri, the day-fresh fish with salsa verde and pickled onion (you can win me over with onion hahaha), and the figs with pesto and ricotta. But there are plenty of other pintxos worth trying, according to my highly esteemed dining companions who came along. The albondigas may seem expensive at 10.95, but you really get more than enough. The shaved cheese is a great find, but I found the meatballs on the inside really too spicy—and that’s saying something for someone who lives for spicy food. Tone that down a little next time and I’ll fully approve of them. But apart from that, this is a really pleasant place. Definitely stop by sometime. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Smashburger from Maijard, Amsterdam

Smashburger joints are popping up like mushrooms, which makes sense because smashburgers are fantastic. They’re already plentiful in the United States, but here in Europe we’re only at the beginning of a new era. Dumbo in Paris is, in my opinion, the very best, so it makes sense that Majiard on Rozengracht in Amsterdam probably drew inspiration from it. Good, soft brioche bun, the meat is nice and tender, and the cheese is melted excellently, but I do have a slight issue with the sauce. The balance is a little off, with slightly too much mustard on one side and slightly too much sweetness on the other. A shame, because this bun certainly has the potential to be one of the best in the country. And the price could definitely use some work too. Nevertheless, a very enjoyable burger, but I’m still longing for Dumbo in Paris. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
