Burger King sued over Whopper being too small

Uh oh, trouble in paradise at the Home of the Whopper. Burger King is in trouble in the United States and has been hit with a lawsuit. The reason is quite remarkable: the Whopper is supposedly too small in reality, and the advertisements would therefore be too misleading for customers.

Here’s the thing: in the advertisement, the beef patty appears to be considerably thicker, and the ingredients even spill over the bun — but in reality, none of that is true.
Whopper too small: optical illusion or simply illegal?
According to research, the Whopper in Burger King advertisements is 35 percent larger than it is in reality, and that difference is of course very substantial. The amount of meat would also be twice as much as it actually is, although Burger King does not see anything wrong with that: the company says it is not required to serve burgers that look exactly like the picture. Ultimately, it remains to be seen whether the jury agrees, because this case is actually going ahead.
Notable detail: fast-food chains McDonald’s and Wendy’s risk facing a similar lawsuit in America. So don’t be surprised if you soon see an advertisement for a Big Mac that looks suspiciously realistic. Because, if we’re honest: that Big Mac tastes delicious, but it no longer has much in common with the looks used to advertise it…
