Woman sues McDonald’s over ‘too-tempting cheeseburger’
It’s so bizarre that in other countries you can sue absolutely anyone and everyone for absolutely anything and everything. And now it’s happening again, with Maccie as the victim this time. And honestly: this is a completely justified lawsuit. HAHA. I think I’ll sue the Golden Arches too, for making me make unhealthy decisions when, after countless beers, I end up at the Albert Cuyp location with a BigMac Menu. Of course, I can’t do anything about that myself; it’s all their fault.
That’s the reasoning of Russian Ksenia Ovchinnikova from the town of Omsk. She’s at odds with McDonald’s because they forced this deeply religious woman to commit a sin.
Fasting is impossible with a McDonald’s nearby
Ms Ovchinnikova is a member of the Russian Orthodox Church, and every spring they fast. That means no dairy, meat or other animal products. No cigarettes, sex or alcohol either. Apparently, the last three things were manageable for her, but the first… Im-pos-sible. And that’s because of Maccie.
In April 2019, she completely went off the rails after successfully observing this fasting period for nineteen years. The reason? A McDonald’s advertisement. One featuring a delicious cheeseburger and a portion of chicken nuggets. And that was the proverbial final straw for Ksenia, who didn’t know how quickly she had to get to the nearest Mac to immediately devour one of those burgers. Fasting over. Major sin.
A burger like that is simply criminally tempting
‘When I saw that advertisement, I couldn’t control myself,’ she told the Russian media. Before she knew it, she was sitting there satisfied, but feeling guilty after enjoying her cheeseburger. Or rather, there was no enjoyment left by then. Because once that craving had been satisfied, the realization hit. ‘I request that the court investigate whether McDonald’s violated my consumer rights and, if so, compensate me for moral damages with a sum of one thousand rubles.’
No idea whether this lawsuit will be taken seriously, but in the worst-case scenario Maccie loses and has to pay this woman around €11.50. I know, a horrifically high amount.
Bet she’ll use it to buy more burgers?
