Can we talk about double-walled glasses?
Double-walled glasses. I. Don’t. Get. Them. At. All. There are so many reasons not to buy them, yet they remain just as popular as ever. Am I the only one who hates these things?
Many of you will probably know the artist Demi Lovato, who made one of the most iconic statements ever in an interview — in my opinion. The question asked was: ‘What’s your favorite dish?‘ and Lovato answered: ‘I like mugs. Because they’re really comfortable in your hand, and they hold really hot things that you don’t have to touch.’ At the time, the entire internet jumped all over this because it was supposedly such a stupid statement, but honestly: I get it.
Because nothing beats a comfortable mug for drinking your tea, coffee or latte. And seriously (just like with wine glasses, by the way): a mug like that affects the taste.
Why would you buy this?
As far as I’m concerned, those double-walled glasses do nothing for the taste. But that’s not all; they’re awkward to hold, you can easily burn your mouth – because you can’t tell from the outside how hot the liquid is – and drinking from them is also incredibly annoying because they’re so thick. As far as comfort goes, they get a big fat fail from me, and I therefore don’t understand why these items are still so popular.
Double-walled glasses are popular
To make matters even worse: I don’t understand why those double-walled glasses are so popular when there are also perfectly ordinary versions with a handle — but you hardly ever see those! In what world is a double-walled glass without a handle more comfortable than one with one?! Yes, you can tell: I have a lot to say about this, but I hope someone can explain it to me.
So if you are, or know, someone who always prefers a double-walled glass (without a handle, no less) to a comfortable mug — which can hold more, too! — I’d really love to hear from you. I’m very curious.
