Caution advised: Albert Heijn warns about semi-skimmed milk

Are you someone who likes to stock up and happen to have AH long-life semi-skimmed milk at home? Don’t drink it, because it may contain Bacillus Cereus. And that can cause an unpleasant case of food poisoning. That’s why Albert Heijn has decided to recall the milk.

Bacillus cereus is a bacterium that is widespread in nature. The bacterium produces a toxin that often causes food poisoning. Bacillus cereus can, for example, occur in rice or pasta dishes that have been stored for too long and not at a sufficiently low temperature. Protein-rich foods, such as milk, can also be contaminated. The symptoms are generally mild and last for a relatively short time. But nobody wants the diarrhoea and vomiting caused by the bacterium.
