Chinese woman takes her entire family on a blind date to test how generous he is
Okay, imagine this: you’re a little strapped for cash. So you decide to go on a date and hope you’ve landed a man who’ll pay for you. But imagine your entire family is also struggling financially. They need to eat too. What do you do then? Obviously, you just bring all 23 of your relatives along. Uhhh, what?
Yes, seriously; this is what a Chinese woman did. She didn’t use the excuse that her entire family was hungry and short on money, by the way, but I think she would have had even more success with that than with her actual reason. She wanted to find out whether her date was somewhat generous. And I’d also like to point out that it was a BLIND DATE. She had never seen this man before! I would have loved to be there. ‘Hey, nice to meet you, and oh yeah, I brought 23 relatives along, and oh yeah, you’re not going to try to split the bill on me, are you? You’re paying, right? RIGHT?’
Well, no
It turned out that her blind date was NOT an idiot. That was a bit unfortunate for her, because he probably saw 23 red flags (24 if you count the date herself) waving when he walked in and decided ~shocking~ NOT to pay for her and her family. And no, he didn’t pass the selection committee, but whether he was all that upset about it… I’m guessing he wasn’t exactly eager for a second date either.
This woman handled it incredibly badly, because beforehand the man in question had offered to pay. But he clearly meant ‘only for her’, not ‘for you and all the relatives you can round up.’
Not a match made in heaven
In China, by the way, it’s very common for single people to be sent on dates by their parents. The mother of this 29-year-old man had arranged the date because she thought it was about time he found a wife. Being 29 and single is clearly a no-go in China. I just hope she understood that paying a $1,000 bill (because that’s how expensive it ended up being) isn’t exactly a great deal.
