Coca-Cola introduces 4 new ‘signature’ flavours

CocaCola-liggend2

It’s been around for 134 years: the Coca-Cola recipe. But now they’re giving it a twist. They’re doing so with four new signature mixes. All based on the original recipe, but each with a slightly different twist. Smoky, for example – the name gives it away – has been infused with smoky aromas. We put them to the test for you at the Perfect Serve Barshow in Amsterdam.

In collaboration with five mixologists, Coca-Cola created four new flavours: Spicy, Woody, Herbal and Smoky. A handful of aromas added, a few ingredients removed, and yet that familiar Coca-Cola taste remains.

Bringing baco back

There’s nothing wrong with that ‘old’ Coca-Cola, you might think. And you’d be absolutely right. It’s not about changing the cola flavour, but more about a brave attempt to make a comeback in the world of mixed drinks. Because where has our old familiar baco actually gone? For several years now, the public favourite has been gin and tonic.

Tonic has claimed the entire white spirits market as a result. These signature cola mixes are instead aimed at the dark spirits market. Spicy, for example, pairs well with Scotch whisky or brown tequila, while Smoky goes well with bourbon.

Perfect Serve Barshow

During our visit to the Perfect Serve Barshow, one thing is certain: we have to try the signature mixes. We taste Spicy, Smoky and Woody. Our favourite? Smoky with bourbon! This variant is packed with smoky aromas and a hint of oak extract. It reminded us a little of root beer. And – simply because we always think about food – it’s ideal as a marinade for a delicious piece of cola chicken.

Here’s a quick overview of what’s in the signature mixes:

Herbal: lemongrass, dill seed
Spicy: lime, rosemary and jalapeño
Smoky: ylang-ylang and oak extract
Woody: basil and yuzu
