Complaints are pouring in about Coca-Cola
What’s going on with the cola cans in Belgium? Over the past two months, complaints about the new Coca-Cola cans have been pouring in on the complaints website, because according to the experts they are ‘horribly disgusting.’ What’s going on?
The complaints website is a great source of entertainment. People complain that the spareribs are too spicy , that the tastiest soup flavours are being removed from the range and that the ice creams do not keep for very long, in the most trivial ways.
Coca-Cola has changed the cans, and judging by the complaints on this website, that has rubbed many cola lovers the wrong way. Perhaps thousands of Belgians are blissfully sipping their new can of cola, but they will never end up on this website. The complaints are scathing: the new cans are an inconvenient size, an ugly colour and – most importantly – the taste is different. Coca-Cola headquarters, time to intervene?
Wrong size
Klacht.nl member AHAElektro wants the new cans gone immediately. ‘Those new cans are bad in every respect,’ he writes. ‘My biggest annoyance, however, is that the carbonation disappears immediately after opening.’ Undrinkable, he thinks. And there is a practical issue too: the size is different. ‘No thought was given to the fact that car cup holders are designed for the size of regular 33 cl cans.’ Xtina has noticed that too: ‘Twice now, when going around a bend, the can has flown out of the holder—truly unbelievable!’
Horrible taste
Colazerolover adds their two cents. ‘The Coca-Cola Zero suddenly tastes absolutely horrible! We bought our usual supply and had to throw everything away. Bitter and disgusting! What have you done?’
Colour
So how can you tell whether you have picked up a new or an old can? Look at the colour, says Radiebkadi. ‘Recently, the cans have changed colour, from matte red to glossy red. The cola also tastes different, and that is not in Coca-Cola’s favour.’
Material
The material of the cans also seems different, writes Jacola. ‘The tin has become flimsier and is made of aluminium instead of iron. Perhaps that has something to do with it?’ Jacola also thinks there is too little fizz in the cola, and that the cola tastes different—in other words, sweeter. Mor agrees with him or her: those new cans are horribly disgusting. And Dikkie noticed it back in May: something is different, and it is not good. Lis123 even had an allergic reaction to the new cola, something she had never experienced with the ‘regular’ cola.
Distribution line
Coca-Cola has not yet responded to the deluge of complaints. One small positive: the complaints seem to come mainly from Belgium, so perhaps Belgian cola lovers could set up a distribution line from the Netherlands? Because our cola still tastes perfectly fine.
