Crazy or brilliant investment? Tens of thousands of euros offered for ginger camel on Marktplaats

Imagine walking through the supermarket past the shelf of pieces of ginger when suddenly your eye catches a piece that looks remarkably like an animal. You decide to buy it, put it among the gems on Marktplaats, and receive bids of tens of thousands of euros for it. Huh?

How it all started… Less than a week ago, Kim found a crisp in her bag of crisps that she and many others thought looked a lot like a miniature guinea pig. She decided to put the individual paprika-flavoured crisp on Marktplaats, where the listing went completely viral and an art dealer offered no less than 5,000 euros. Less than a week later, there is now the ginger camel, attracting just as much attention on the sales site as the crisp did back then.

Making money with ginger
Ivo Hoft from Tilburg says he is addicted to ginger tea. At the supermarket, he is always looking for funny ginger shapes, which he then shares on his Instagram. This time, he found a piece that he thought looked remarkably like a camel, humps and all. When he got home, Ivo decided to share the piece on Marktplaats to see whether he could earn as much from it as Kim.

Say what?!
And what do you know? The bids are pouring in like crazy. By now, the highest bid stands at more than 70 thousand euros. Say what?! Ivo will only know for sure whether all the bids are genuine once his payment request has been paid. Besides the ginger camel, you can now also bid on a ginger pony, dragon, Piet and seahorse.
