Damn it! Cafés and restaurants closed again due to new coronavirus measures
We were already afraid of it last night… The last supper, we called our dinner at Hotel Arena, where Alain Caron was working in the kitchen as guest chef. And that fear has now become reality: cafés and restaurants have to close again.
To prevent the further spread of the coronavirus, the cabinet has just decided that the hospitality industry, well, without the ho – hotels may remain open – is closing down again. These and other new measures will in principle apply for four weeks. After two weeks, an evaluation will take place to see what the new measures achieve. The closure of cafés and restaurants will take effect tomorrow at 10:00 p.m.
The key hospitality-related measures at a glance
All dining and drinking establishments will close their doors tomorrow. Delivery is allowed.
Exceptions are: hotels for hotel guests (they may provide their guests with food and drinks), funeral centres and businesses beyond the security checkpoint at airports. A maximum of 30 people applies in these indoor spaces. Locations with a combined function, such as golf courses with hospitality facilities, must close the hospitality section.
In addition, no alcohol (or soft drugs) may be sold or (legally) delivered between 8:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Drinking alcohol or carrying it on you is also not permitted in public spaces between 8:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.
Partial lockdown
There will also be a compulsory face mask requirement; legal measures are currently being taken to implement it. Mark Rutte speaks of a partial lockdown; all I can think about is a very scary science-fiction film…
