Delicious deal: young people eat for half price this week

Now this is a fun and tasty initiative! That is, if you’re under 27. From October 7 to 13, you’ll get no less than fifty percent off the menu price. With this initiative, the entrepreneurs of JRE (Jeunes Restaurateurs) want to introduce young people to fine dining in a relaxed atmosphere. 41 restaurants throughout the Netherlands, and one in Bonaire, are taking part in the promotion.

This is not the first time that young people have been able to dine at a hefty discount, by the way. JRE has been organizing this week since 2016. And Michelin-starred restaurant Noor in Groningen, run by thirtysomethings Marleen and Jeroen Brouwer, also regularly offers students student deals. JRE’s goal: to introduce young people to dining at a top restaurant in an accessible way.

JRE

JRE is an association of young restaurateurs who share their talent and passion for gastronomy with like-minded people. The association has more than 390 restaurants and 160 hotels spread across 16 countries. At JRE, everything revolves around sharing, encouraging and inspiring. Well, this discount week certainly proves that! Restaurateurs see quite a bit of hesitation among young people when it comes to visiting a fine dining restaurant. Think of this as a kind of trial experience: for a great price, young people can now try it out and discover that it really isn’t all that intimidating.

Or as Marko Karelse, chairman of JRE-Netherlands and owner of Villa La Ruche in Voorburg, puts it: “They have no problem spending a lot of money on a dance or music festival, but a fine dining restaurant with a Michelin star is seen as expensive and even a little strict.” With this promotion, JRE wants to prove the opposite.

Youth Week: time to make a reservation!

From now on, reservations can be made by phone (or online in some cases) at the restaurant of your choice, mentioning “Youth Week”. Naturally, reservations are subject to availability and are not valid in combination with other promotions or offers. To make sure you meet the promotion’s terms and conditions, they ask you to bring a valid form of identification. Fortunately, you can leave your credit card at home.
