Delicious new burger concept: the Oishii bun

Whenever I hear about a new sandwich or burger idea, I immediately get excited. Because a generously filled sandwich is simply irresistible! Take the new Oishii bun, for example—it sounds delicious, doesn’t it?

Oishii is the Japanese word for delicious, so that’s a good start. But what exactly is it, and where can you buy it?
Looks like a UFO
Esther Weggeman and Marc Rewinkel have been working in culinary events for years with their company Kitchen Inc. But then came corona, so you can imagine: the company has been at a standstill for some time. Esther and Marc themselves haven’t been sitting idle, and with the help of their son Tim, who studies Japanese and is crazy about Asian cuisine, they came across some special buns from Korea. The whole family was immediately enthusiastic. The bun has a completely seared-shut edge, looks like a UFO and has the advantage of keeping your hands clean.
With Aberdeen Angus
Tim: ‘Our buns come in various versions and are certainly not only filled with burgers. From the classic Oishii bun with Aberdeen Angus (the meat comes from top butcher Chateaubriand), wasabi mayonnaise and pickled sunomono pickle to the Main Lobster bun. There are also plenty of options for vegetarians—at least 50% of the menu consists of vegetarian buns, such as the Bollywood bun with shredded jackfruit and brinjal curry. Another must-try is the IJshii, a brioche filled with real vanilla ice cream.’

Want to try an Oishii bun? Take a look at the menu online and start drooling. From January 24, the Oishii buns can be ordered online; this week, they can already be picked up at the pop-up at Nieuwe Kerkstraat 22 in Amsterdam. (Open Tuesday–Saturday from 11:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m.).
