5 products you can also use for something completely different
Awaken your inner McGyver and take a creative look at the things in your kitchen. You probably never thought you could do all this with a can of shaving foam, ketchup and a melon baller.
Melon baller
Those beautiful round melon balls are made with a melon baller (great word for Hangman). You probably use it once a year, when you’re having a barbecue with friends and want to put together photogenic sangria or a good melon-mozzarella-mint salad. The rest of the year, it just sits there in the drawer doing nothing. But that’s about to change: you can also use that little scoop to easily remove the core from an apple or pear. Ha, bet you didn’t think of that, huh?
Shaving foam
No, you shouldn’t use it in the kitchen. Not even for the photo, because it looks a little like whipped cream, but it’s really something else. What it does work well for: cleaning a glass shower door, the oven door and the shelves in the fridge. Use the cheapest shaving foam, without moisturising ingredients or overpowering fragrances, and spread it over the dirt. Leave it to work for a moment, rinse and wipe dry. A sparkling kitchen, at your service.
Biscuit tin
Seriously: are there households where this biscuit tin isn’t in the cupboard? Or in the attic? Or in the shed? Filled with spools of thread, loyalty points and gift cards, paper clips and elastic bands, loose buttons and dead batteries? Add a few birthday candles, a bag of sunflower seeds, satay skewers and a roll of Dextro? In short: this biscuit tin is the universal storage place for everything except biscuits.
Gummy bears
We previously wrote about the unexpected laxative effect of Haribo gummy bears. Based on the experiences shared online – fortunately, we’ve never fallen victim to such bears ourselves – it turned out that it was mainly the bears containing sugar substitutes that had a direct effect on bowel movements. If you’re constipated, can’t go to the toilet for number two, or your intestines are on strike, it might be handy to keep a bag of these colourful friends on hand to get things moving again. Stay near the toilet, because the effect can be rather, well… explosive.
Ketchup
No hamburger is complete without it, and it’s also delicious for dipping a toasted sandwich in: heavenly. But did you know that ketchup is also great for cleaning? Household guru Zamarra Kok discovered that ketchup can also be used for polishing, particularly copper. Normally, polishing copper is a real chore: smelly copper polish, rubbing, buffing. With ketchup, it’s super simple: spread it on, leave it to work for a moment, rinse, and your copper pans will be clean.
