Despite corona, there will still be a food truck festival soon – and it’s drive-through
A summer without food festivals is a very boring summer for me. So my heart made a little leap when I heard that there will soon be a small but lovely ‘food festival’ after all. With a very special chef. And hopefully this will be the start of more fun things to come!
Food truck drive-through festival
Jan Smink and the Van der Valk Hotel in Wolvega aren’t organizing just any food festival, because corona, so that’s not allowed. What is allowed? A food truck drive-through festival. I think it’s brilliant. And did you just think, ‘Jan Smink… where do I know him from?’ Well: chef Jan Smink cooks at Restaurant Smink in Wolvega, Friesland with a 3D food printer, which he uses to create special shapes and designs. It has brought him considerable fame. Understandably, because what he does is certainly not ‘form over function’: it’s mainly about the taste, and that is absolutely spot-on. In fact, fellow chefs consider him a contender for a Michelin star.
Food festival atmosphere
Since his restaurant closed, he hasn’t been sitting still. You can order his SMINK@HOME MENU, for example, and he also organizes various bingo events, such as the King’s Bingo and Mother’s Day Bingo. And now there’s the food truck drive-through festival together with the Van der Valk Hotel in Wolvega. A total of six different food trucks will be there, five serving food and one serving drinks. There will also be live music, and the location will be decorated festively to create a real food festival atmosphere.
Pulled pork with beer mayo
The menu includes brioche pulled pork with beer mayonnaise and glazed chicken thighs, among other things.

Just roll with it
Wolvega is in the south of Friesland, about an hour’s drive from Amsterdam and Utrecht. I don’t know what your plans are for May 15, but I’d say just roll with it.
