Fake butter from Bill Gates: who on earth is waiting for this?

Proud and loud I dare say it: I LOVE BUTTER. Butter is the reason food tastes so good in restaurants. It has flavor and adds flavor. But if self-proclaimed philanthropist Bill Gates has his way, we won’t be eating it much longer. He is the driving force behind the new fake butter. Hell in a package, if you ask me. Let’s please stop this nonsense: processed food has been proven to be unhealthy.

And butter, or more accurately butter (namely, made from cream; the fatty part of fresh milk), is not. Butter is a natural product and has not undergone chemical processes like margarine or low-fat margarine, which often contain trans fats. And those have been proven harmful to health.
Butter: delicious and healthy
Quite apart from the fact that butter is incredibly delicious and makes everything taste better (chefs fact of life), butter is also healthy. Butter contains essential vitamins, healthy fats and antioxidants, and provides a natural, unprocessed source of energy.
Although butter contains saturated fats, not all saturated fats are bad. Butter is a natural source of fat-soluble vitamins—this means the body can absorb them best when they are combined with fat—especially vitamin A. Vitamin A is essential for a healthy immune system, skin and eyes. It also contains smaller amounts of vitamins D, E and K2, which are important for your bones and the transport of calcium in the body.
Butter also contains plenty of butyrates, a fatty acid with anti-inflammatory properties that protects your digestive system against inflammation. So this substance offers your intestines extra protection.
Fake butter
And now fake butter is about to hit the market. Developed by the American start-up Savor, with the support of Bill Gates. Not made from milk, but based on hydrogen and CO₂. Using heat, oxygen and a small amount of hydrogen, the company can convert CO₂ from the air into edible fats. It is said to be an environmentally friendly and vegan alternative to real butter. The fact that it is unhealthy appears to be of lesser importance. And worse: after fake butter, Savor also wants to sell us fake milk, fake ice cream and fake cheese. All in the interest of the environment. Because making butter requires milk.
According to Savor, their fake butter could potentially emit almost three times less than real unsalted butter. On his blog, GatesNotes, Bill Gates enthusiastically said that it “really tastes good, just like regular butter.” Do you believe him? I don’t.
Not available yet
For now, the fake butter is not yet in stores. “We are currently working on obtaining approval from the regulatory authorities so that we can sell our butter,” Kathleen Alexander, CEO of Savor, told The Guardian. “We expect to be able to start selling it in 2025 at the earliest.”
