Farmer Daan and his daughter Katja are left with a surplus of over 60,000 kilos because the processing company the kale was intended for unexpectedly no longer wanted it. The temperature is rising, which means the kale will start flowering and needs to be harvested as soon as possible. 60,000 kilos of surplus kale
Farmer Daan and his daughter Katja from Sint Maartensvlotbrug in North Holland have been growing kale with great care for years, but now they suddenly have 60,000 kilos of kale left over. After receiving a verbal commitment from a processing company, Daan and Katja planted the requested kale seedlings. Unfortunately, the processing company this kale was intended for suddenly cancelled. As a result, Daan and Katja now urgently need to find a new large-scale buyer.
The kale is still in the field, but temperatures are rising. This means the kale will flower sooner. Spring has begun, bringing the winter kale season almost to an end. This means that the large-scale buyers no longer want this kale. There is little time, so the kale must be harvested as soon as possible; otherwise, all these kilos risk going to waste.
