Father’s Day gift: these 3 cookbooks

With Father’s Day just around the corner, you have to face it: the gift. FavorFlav to the rescue: with these three cookbooks, you’ll make any father who likes cooking even just a little bit very happy.

The Power of Herbs – Flavors from the Kruidfabriek – Peter Lute
This chef’s love of herbs goes a long way: at his restaurant De Kruidfabriek by Lute in Amstelveen, herbs take center stage. So it’s no surprise that there’s also a book with herbs in the leading role. The dishes are easy to make and beautifully photographed. This pastrami sandwich, for example or these fries made from polenta with parsley mayo.
Here you’ll find a Q&A with chef Peter Lute.

The Kitchen of Hartwood – Eric Werner & Mya Henry
Hartwood is a restaurant in Mexico, located right in the middle of the jungle. The dishes from this book are prepared there by Eric Werner and Mya Henry over an open fire. For your father, that’s probably difficult, unless he lives in the jungle. STILL, this book is a very good gift. Some dishes are also suitable for Dutch kitchens. Your dad can easily make the irresistible roasted onion oil on his stovetop at home, for example. The dishes that we Dutch people really can’t make at home, perhaps because it’s impossible to get the necessary ingredients, are a fantastic source of inspiration. And then there’s the photography. Uncomplicated and incredibly beautiful. It could go straight on the coffee table.

Soul Food – The Woman with the Beard
Mas van Putten (the woman) and Carl Lemette (the beard) wrote a book full of comfort food. Classic cuisine and Asian cuisine meet on virtually every page. And it turns out to be a success: FavorFlav’s Emma and Marieke tested a number of dishes and are incredibly enthusiastic. Don’t expect intense fusion dishes or super-difficult recipes; quite the opposite, these are mostly lovely recipes for weekdays. This sea bass with courgette sauce, for example, or a little miso chicken from the oven.
