FavorFlavs #25

We all have them: favorite flavors, ingredients and kitchen tools. FavorFlavs we always reach for (again). These are ours.

Walnut
We could give a whole spiel about how nutritious, useful and healthy walnuts are for our bodies, thanks to antioxidants, polyphenols, vitamin E, melatonin and omega-3. And how they are quintessentially food for thought, because they support, maintain and strengthen our brain activity.
Romantically foraging
But we won’t. What we’re really after is the flavor of this tree fruit, which we’d ideally forage ourselves, romantically, beneath a majestic tree somewhere in the French countryside. To build up a stash for the coming (winter) months, like hamsters.
If we don’t forage them ourselves, as notorious food snobs we’re happy to crack open Noix de Grenoble AOC. Indeed, appellation d’origine contrôlée, from a valley near the French Alps. To end up in breakfast yogurt, homemade granola, salad, walnut pesto or orange-walnut cake.
Although eating them straight out of hand may well remain the most delicious option.
Noix de Grenoble AOC are available from nut specialists and Lidl.
