Foodwatch removes Knorr stock cubes from supermarkets
Is the shelf with Knorr stock cubes empty in your supermarket? Then Foodwatch has paid a visit. As an action, they remove all the stock cubes from the shelf because they contain dangerous mineral oils. And if the ministry, the producer and the supermarket take no action, Foodwatch will do it themselves.
According to Foodwatch, Unilever uses dangerous mineral oils in Knorr stock cubes. Laboratory tests have shown that this aromatic oil (MOAH) is present in the cubes, but Unilever is not taking action. The oil is potentially carcinogenic and genotoxic, says Foodwatch. ‘Food giant Unilever still claims that its products, which are heavily contaminated with mineral oils suspected of causing cancer, are safe for people’s health. It is high time that all governments and food authorities throughout Europe give Unilever a red card and force the company to comply with European food legislation. It is scandalous that Unilever places itself above the law.’
Shelves empty
Foodwatch’s playful action throughout Europe: the organisation removed the cubes from the store itself and put up a warning by the shelf. The cubes were not stolen, but simply paid for at the checkout. Foodwatch’s action is taking place throughout Europe. In France, it has been successful: the stock cubes have officially been recalled there. Not yet in the Netherlands.
Other products too
The stock cubes are not the only products that contain this contaminated MOAH, by the way. Bread toppings and muesli may also contain the oil. Foodwatch has published a list of all the products that may contain it.
