For sushi lovers: Masami is a gem in Hoofddorp

Nothing has been spared at the surprising Masami in Hoofddorp. Beautiful products are used, there is skilled staff in the kitchen and front of house, and the interior by renowned interior designer Eric Kusters gives the restaurant an international feel. A wonderful discovery, where you can enjoy not only incredibly fresh sushi, but also delicious Asian fusion dishes.

Masami is not located in a trendy city centre, but in Hoofddorp’s business district. You forget all about the dull surroundings as soon as you step inside Masami. Beautiful velvet chairs, cherry blossoms, wooden floor; here you sit in an oasis of calm.

Chef and maître from The Harbour Club
Chef Maykel Slagter worked for years at The Harbour Club in Amsterdam-Oost, so he knows exactly how to make incredibly fresh, heavenly delicious and beautiful sushi. But that’s not all: the (partly open) kitchen also serves fantastic other dishes made with the best ingredients. Wagyu (the most exclusive beef in the world) from Nice to Meat, fish from Koninklijke Schmidt Zeevis… Truly beautiful products. Maykel is surrounded by former colleagues, as the friendly maître Imil, among others, also worked at The Harbour Club in the east for a long time.

Pani Puri
We start with Pani Puri, an Indian snack that literally means ‘water in fried bread’. At Masami, the round, hollow puri is filled with beef tartare and Korean bulgogi sauce: incredibly flavourful and surprising.
Delicious sushi
Whatever you order, you really cannot skip a sushi platter. From the Salmon torch roll with seared salmon and avocado to Crispy rice cake and Crispy salmon uramaki with fried shrimp; it is all incredibly delicious.
Wagyu
Wagyu fans must not miss the Wagyu steak niku tori skewers. The secret behind this heavenly meat? During the final 20 months, the Japanese Wagyu cattle receive a special diet, which creates the extreme marbling in the meat. The meat is so incredibly tender and full of flavour that you don’t need to do much with it. The skewers are grilled briefly and finished with a little sea salt—so delicious! The Wagyu uramaki roll is not only a feast for the eyes. It is made with wagyu, cucumber, avocado, green asparagus, truffle teriyaki and garlic chips. Yum!
Char siu pork ribs
The Char siu pork ribs are also delicious: slow-cooked boneless ribs in a honey-sweet Char siu sauce (also known as Chinese BBQ sauce) and kataifi, crispy shredded pastry. The crunchy kataifi also accompanies the slow-cooked duck with Massaman curry. We order some good egg fried rice to go with it.
Mochi ice cream
We finish with pastel-coloured mochi ice cream, a refreshing dessert based on traditional Japanese mochi. In Japan, mochi is mainly eaten at New Year, as it symbolises good luck. The outside of the small balls of mochi dough (made from glutinous rice) is sweet and sticky, while the centre is sweet, creamy and cold. A little unusual, but delicious.
