This is a 10-minute recipe with 5-star vibes. Whether you want something quick on a weeknight or want to impress your friends, you’ll always score points with these garlic prawns.

Defrosting prawns

Buy the prawns frozen, in those large bags, and take them out of the freezer the morning before you want to eat them and place them in a bowl in the refrigerator. This is the best way to defrost them.

Forgot? Then you can defrost them in a sturdy ziplock bag in cold water. Pour the water away every half hour and replace it with fresh water. Other than that, making these prawns really is no work at all. Serve with fries, or if you’re feeling healthy: rice and possibly a salad.

How to make garlic prawns

  • Heat the oil and butter and sauté the garlic with the chilli flakes.
  • Add the prawns and stir-fry until they start to change colour. Shake the pan so the prawns colour on all sides. Deglaze with the white wine once all the prawns are pink.
  • Remove the pan from the heat. Sprinkle over the parsley, lemon juice and black pepper, and optionally some salt.
  • Serve immediately with some baguette, pasta or rice.

Wine tip for this dish

Clichéd, but no less true for that: fish should swim. And these garlic prawns feel right at home with a chilled glass of Viñas del Vero Luces blanco. This delicious Spanish wine is made from three grapes: chardonnay, macabeo and sauvignon blanc. This trio guarantees a wine that is both dry, fresh and juicy. A little peach, a little lemon – actually exactly what you crave alongside these garlic prawns. You can buy it for just over €5 at Albert Heijn. What are you waiting for? Run Swim, don’t walk!
