Gastrovino La Liguria is the Scheveningen hotspot you need to know

Gastrovino La Liguria

Do you love Italian cuisine and Italian wines? Then Gastrovino La Liguria (shop, traiteur and restaurant all in one) in the monumental sluice keeper’s house is an address in Scheveningen you really need to have on your radar.

Gastrovino La Liguria is the second location of La Liguria (with that fun wine drive-thru!). You can shop here for groceries to take home, either to simply heat up or prepare yourself, and there is a restaurant with a lovely terrace. With an extensive range of Italian delicacies and exclusive wines, and its beautiful Italian terrazzo floor, you’ll feel like you’re on the Italian coast here all year round.

Take it slow

The pasta machine produces the most delicious lasagne sheets, tagliatelle, ravioli and tortellini for fresh pasta to take away, and in the shop you’ll find plenty of Italian delicacies, including many Slow Food products. In short: honest, pure and traditionally cultivated products with which you can make delicious dishes at home—without rushing (or, as they say in Italy: pianopiano!). And fun fact: you can also buy the cheerful tableware made especially for La Liguria here.

Pinsa Romana

In addition to focaccia (with various toppings), Gastrovino La Liguria also sells Pinsa Romana. The Tuscan take on pizza contains fewer calories and fewer carbohydrates, but is every bit as delicious. Due to a combination of different types of flour, the dough of the base is lighter than a pizza base, making Pinsa Romana perfect as an antipasto or side dish. There are several pinsas on the menu, including one with Jacobus Toet salmon and one with Prosciutto di Parma. YUM!

Risotto to die for

The menu features even more delicious Italian dishes, and if, like me, you don’t know what to choose, I have the ultimate tip for you. The risotto with ricotta, spinach and pancetta at Gastrovino La Liguria is the answer to EVERYTHING, from heartbreak and a terrible mood to whatever you happen to be celebrating.

Pesto di Pra

The Tagliolini al Pesto di Pra is also delicious. The pesto is made with il basilico di Pra, the ultimate basil for making Genovese pesto (and as we all know, this is the famous pesto). The village of Pra lies near Genoa, where the Bruzzone and Ferrari families have been growing this incredible basil since 1827. In addition to the divine pesto, they also make other sauces, such as Salsa di noci (made with, among other things, walnuts). You can buy both Pesto di Pra and Salsa di noci in the shop here.

I also had a delicious white wine with it: Ca’ Maiol Lugana Prestige. This fresh, slightly spicy wine is made near Lake Garda from the native Turbiana grape variety. After every sip, you’ll want more, so don’t be surprised if you thought you were only going to have one glass and suddenly find yourself having finished the whole bottle (speaking from experience).

Wine tap

You can also buy Ca’ Maiol Lugana Prestige here. And if you’re a wine lover, it’s even more fun. Buy a special wine pass that lets you sample different wines from the shop’s wine tap in a tasting portion (25 ml), half glass (75 ml) or full glass (150 ml). Naturally, the best one comes home with you.
