Gault&Millau: this is where you can eat the Dessert of the Year 2024

At ARCA, the hotel restaurant of the art’otel, just a short walk from Amsterdam Central Station, you can enjoy special Portuguese dishes (sometimes with an Asian twist). Such as the fantastic comfort food dish Bacalhau á Bras. And hooray: ARCA has received the award for Dessert of the Year 2024.

They received the award during the Gault&Millau awards.
Dessert of the Year 2024
It is certainly a special dish: a cauliflower tart with peanut butter & green curry sorbet. Yes, that is something quite different from limoncello tiramisu or künefe. I have eaten at ARCA a few times and honestly: the desserts are definitely for the acquired taste.
Alongside his cauliflower tart with green curry sorbet, pastry chef Rodrigo Silva also makes Pão de Lao. This is one of Portugal’s best-known egg cakes. Rodrigo tops it with a scoop of cheese ice cream made from traditional Portuguese cheese. For people who like to finish with something sweet, this may be a bit too much of a good thing. If you like savory flavors, or the combination of savory and sweet, this is definitely worth trying.
Cauliflower tart
Back to the cauliflower tart. The addition of peanut butter gives the earthy flavor of the cauliflower a rich, nutty taste, while the scoop of green curry sorbet provides the necessary freshness. All in all, a fascinating taste experience. “We chose a dessert that stood out because of its original composition. One of those desserts that you think is truly defining! When we read the ingredients, we thought it would be impossible to create something worthy of the name dessert. But nothing could be further from the truth” – says Gault&Millau about the winning dessert.
Want to taste it yourself? The winning dessert is on the menu at ARCA. The restaurant is open from Tuesday through Saturday from 18:00.
