Good heavens: English village plagued by bean gang

The village of Wonershy in the Southeast of England is currently being plagued by a wave of vandalism with a very ‘national’ character: baked beans in tomato sauce. Instead of ending up on the plate as part of a Full English Breakfast, the contents of a tin of this English classic are increasingly landing on cars, front doors and even the equipment in the local playground.

What a mess! Not only the muck that you have to try to remove from the outside and between the gaps of your door as best you can, but also these crooks… Or is it just one? In any case, some good old English detective work is still required, because Surrey Police are still baffled.
Messy business
That is why they are appealing to residents for vigilance and assistance, because, as the police write, “the victims are understandably distressed and upset by this unacceptable behaviour.” On Facebook, the police posted a message with a photo of four empty, discarded bean tins and the smeared car of one of the unfortunate victims.
What a waste
What would the Dutch equivalent be if some grubby vandal went out here to cover the neighbourhood in muck, we wonder? Bartje’s brown beans? Barley porridge? Buttermilk? In any case, besides finding it disgusting, we also think it’s a damn shame to waste a perfectly good tin of beans that could easily have been turned into a budget meal!
Crime with a wink
And it wouldn’t be England if increasingly dry, ironic comments weren’t appearing under the police’s Facebook post, including: “Wonder how long it will take the police to ketchup with them”, and that in Surrey “the crime rate has bean going up”…
