McDonald’s revamped Big Mac

The Big Mac has been revamped. Yes, if I hadn’t seen it mentioned in the adverts, this news really would have passed me by. McDonald’s promises better meat, a better bun, and better sauce. And although this classic is incredibly popular with a great many people, I’m still disappointed that the meat is still such a reheated, weird piece of meat. And yes, it’s obviously disgustingly delicious once again, but with Burger King’s competition getting stronger and stronger, I really expect McDonald’s to take a step that makes you say: holy moly, hang my pinky on the coat rack, because now this is something! I do have to give McDonald’s a big compliment in one area, though, because the bun really is much better. A touch crispier (see that bottom? Very nice), a touch creamier. I like it. So ultimately, a solid pass, because yes, it’s still disgustingly delicious. ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Vegan fish sticks from Albert Heijn

Sometimes you ask yourself: was the original really that mediocre, or is the new version just that good? A bit like what you probably have in the bedroom with your ex and then your new boyfriend/girlfriend. That’s a little how I feel about Albert Heijn’s vegan fish sticks. I’ve been somewhat critical of the aforementioned vegan kibbeling in the past, as well as Jumbo’s; they were decent enough, but a replacement for real kibbeling? Nah. With the fish sticks, however, I’m stumped: aren’t these vegan fish sticks simply tastier than the average fish stick you buy at the supermarket? Because this one has a delicious coating, nicely seasoned, with a bit of salt, but the inside is genuinely just as tasty (or perhaps even tastier—you decide) as the original. Really surprising, so surprising that I need to check whether I’m actually okay. Good grief, this was delicious. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Coconut curry baguette from Lidl

Somewhere, I dream that one day Olvarit will release a baby food jar with frikandel special flavour. But you know, that’s a utopia. Still, every time I walk enthusiastically through the supermarket, I look for something new, something unimaginable on the shelves. That happened to me recently at Lidl. I didn’t know it existed, and I didn’t know I wanted it: a herb-butter baguette—oh no, a coconut curry baguette! Noooo! What if this is simply THE snack of 2021? And actually, it is the snack of 2021, because it’s absolutely terrible. Good grief. I’ve rarely put such a disgusting baguette in my mouth. The coconut curry is very, very bland—so bland that even Moppen.nl takes itself offline. It looks as though my daughter stuck her fingers in a diaper and then wiped them on this baguette, before looking delighted and saying: LOOK WHAT I MADE 😀 😀 :D. Well, you get the idea: laughing like a sidekick on a truly awful radio show. ⭐️
